Random Thoughts and Pics

Addison had her cleft palate repaired on May 12. I was very nervous that morning as we drove to Riley Hospital. Addison has had so many respiratory issues that repairing this hole in her mouth, which was now being used as an airway, could cause her new breathing problems. I was so scared that she would have to be put back on oxygen and the monitor. If she were to come home with oxygen I would feel that we were taking steps backwards and not forwards. This surgery ended up going very well. She was a strong little trooper and everything went better than I could have ever hoped. She has since had 2 follow-up appointments and the doctors have given us wonderful news each time. She is healing nicely. Those words gave me reassurance that we had her palate fixed at the correct time. This was the last major surgery that we knew she would have done. Now, we feel that a small weight has been lifted from our shoulders. She is getting so big and so strong. She now weighs 24 pounds! I can't believe it. My baby is growing up...

March of Dimes

Today Addison, Aunt Margee, and I walked in the March of Dimes walk at Wabash College. I had a blast! It was the first time that I had participated in a walk. I can't believe that I have not chosen to do this before. Our team raised over $1600.00 and my friends and family helped me raised $426.00! Thank you everyone! Here are some pictures. The Lil Miss P Team rocks!!! And Lil Miss Peyton was as cute as ever! I am blessed to have met Peyton's family and call them my friends. That's what March of Dimes is all about! I love you guys!

I do enjoy when we have a round of good things happening! The Lord is with us everyday through challenges and triumphs and I just want to say how wonderful it feels to have him on my side.

What a beautiful little girl he has blessed into our family. I look at these precious pictures that my friend April took and it takes my breath away. The other day one of my small groups of kiddos that I work with everyday, had a conversation about what it means when something is "breathtakingly beautiful" and this is it! My darling Addison who takes my breath away at each step, each breath, each tear, and through each small goal she achieves.

We just got a call this week that Addison's bone conductive device is in. The state approved the BC1 and she will hopefully get them next week. I am getting nervous but feel relieved that she will be able to hear soon. We also got an email that we have been approved through the Family Improvement Fund for money to go to the CdLS Conference in June. Lots of good things happening!

Addison had surgery on Tuesday for her clogged tear ducts. Surgery scares me a lot for Addison. She has had intabation problems in the past when she was lifelined to Riley. The doctors tried to tell me that Addison was difficult to intabate and that her anatomy in her throat was abnormal. They wanted to trach her so that if she had to be intabated in the future it wouldn't be a life or death situation. So from that day on I have been very nervous about taking Addison to surgery. On Tuesday the doctors reassured me that she would do great. On her last 2 procedures she was intabated without difficulty!!! I did not know that. The surgeon and the anesthesiologist were very thorough and made me feel very comfortable. They were amazing. So, Addison was wonderful and everything went according to plan. I was so excited to see her smile when she woke up. I am praying that she won't have drainage problems in the future.

On May 12, she will have her cleft palate repaired and her hand repaired where her two fingers are fused together. Her plastic surgeon will hopefully be able to separate these. I will be very nervous again praying that God watches over her and helps her heal.

She did get her Easter pictures taken and she about tore off a chick's wing!!! I was very frightened for the chick's life. So, needless to say, we gave her a fake chick instead! What a funny day that was...not for the chick...very traumatic!

The Latest Update

Addison had been doing really well lately. She was in the hospital in January for a couple of days due to lack of weight gain. Now she is gaining weight and lovin' life. On March 16 she will be having her tear ducts probed at Riley. She has had very yucky eyes and it just won't go away. She dreads the morning ritual when the washcloth comes her way! It will be nice when she wakes up each morning and her eyes are actually opened. On March 8 she will be going to see the audiologist. We have been trying to get her BAHA hearing device since last year. The insurance has denied it twice so now we are trying the BC1. We will discuss those issues at our visit. Good news is that I do think her hearing has improved. May 12 is the tentative date for Addison's cleft palate and hand repair. I'm scared for her to go back and be put under for a surgery. I'm sure I will be a mess those days...surprise, surprise huh?
